01/27/2017

Summary

Birding 102, Jan 27-29
$155 Members only who have graduated from Intro to Birds

Description

By popular demand, we’re trying a weekend field trip to the Rockport area, January 27 - 29. Winter is a great time to visit the Texas coast. Specifically, we’re targeting Whooping Cranes but we will see lots of other cool birds too. Some of the species not common to Austin that we will likely see include Mottled Duck, Brown Pelican, Reddish Egret, Whooping Crane, Roseate Spoonbill, Black Skimmer, numerous gulls, several terns, and all sorts of shorebirds.

We will arrive in Rockport on Friday afternoon or evening. Our first official birding will take place on the Skimmer first thing Saturday morning as we take a three-hour boat ride along the coast. Then we’ll explore on land for the remainder of the weekend. Some of the likely locations we’ll visit include Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, Goose Island State Park, and Rockport Beach Park. Saturday will be a full day of birding. On Sunday, we will likely end about mid-afternoon.

The field trip is only open to graduates of Travis Audubon’s Intro to Birds classes who are members of Travis Audubon. Feel free to join now if you’re not already a member!
