Commons Ford Sparrow Chase, led by Ed Fair

02/27/2016 07:30 AM - 12:00 PM CT

Description

Our monthly field trip for February will focus mainly on sparrow species.  Once again, the prairie produced a significant amount of seeds and sparrows should be plentiful this winter.  Our goal will be 16 species of sparrow!  Of course, we will see the residents and many other wintering species in the park in the as well. Recent interesting sightings include Pyrrhuloxia and Common Ground-Dove. We should total at least 50 species. Also, the park offers one of the few places in the county with the possibility of hearing Northern Bobwhite and Wild Turkey in the dead of winter. Come early if you want to try for these species as well as owls.

We will do a considerable amount of walking on this field trip so be prepared.  We will also likely bushwhack into the prairie (although not required) so be prepared for that as well if you want to participate in it.  Bring your binoculars, snacks and drinks.  Feel free to bring your lunch and we finish the morning with a leisurely lunch by the main house. Further details will be provided to participants closer to the field trip date.
