Join young birder Sebastian Casarez on a birding excursion around Berry Springs Preserve in Georgetown!
TAS member since 2013, Sebastian Casarez, 15 years old, is a passionate, avid, young Texas birder and bird conservationist who led bird walks for the TAS Young Birders Club 2015-2017. Sebastian has participated in TAS Birdathons in the past since 2014. In 2016, Sebastian led the TAS Roadrunner Racers Birdathon Team, which won the TAS Birdathon Award for the Team with most species while birding less than 6 hours. In 2015, Sebastian became the first child at the age of 12 to be awarded a Children in Nature Collaborative of Austin Award (CINCA). Since the age of nine, Sebastian has presented several bird presentations throughout Texas at festivals, libraries, schools, TPWD State Parks, local city parks, and several community events. In 2018, Sebastian was recognized as the first young "Avian Advocate" by Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center WILDFLOWER Magazine, Young Environmentalists Edition Vol. 35, No. 2. In 2017, Sebastian started a birding project called The Texas Blue Jay Project, where he travels throughout Texas encouraging Texans to explore birdwatching in their backyards, city and state parks. His birding project also hopes to inspire a new generation of young birders by collecting donated used or new bird books for local middle and high schools to support future birding clubs/ornithology clubs.
This team will bird on Saturday, May 4, 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM.The fee to register for this team is $25, but if you wish you are welcome to provide an additional donation! This team is limited to 15 participants.
